Main organisers, Alliance Francaise and the Embassy of France in Malaysia celebrated the launch of French Film Festival 2013 today with cocktails and a preview screening of romance comedy movie “Popular – (Digital 2D)” in GSC Pavilion KL.
Host for the evening was H.E. Madam Martine Dorance, Ambassador of France to Malaysia, Y.A.M. Tengku Zatashah binti Sultan Idris Shah (Royal Patron and President of Alliance Francaise de Kuala Lumpur), together with Mr Stephane Dovert (Cultural and Scientific Counsellor of French Embassy) and Madam Agnes Dovert (Director of Alliance Francaise de Kuala Lumpur).
Joining them was honoured guests, the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, Ybhg Datuk Seri Haji Ahmad Phesal, Ms Koh Mei Lee (Chief Executive Officer, GSC), Mr Terence Ong (Pernod Ricard Malaysia) and Ms Marie Julie (Vice President of Alliance Francaise de Kuala Lumpur). Also present was Mr Aubry Mennesson (Light Cibles), Mr Rolf Stehle (Goethe Institute), Mr William Tseng (Asia Agrlnvest), Ms Marie Christine (Cultural Impact), Ms Thina Krishnan (MFCCI), Ms Amelie Coulombel (MFCCI) and Mr Benjamin Humblot (MFCCI).
2013 marks the 13th consecutive year that the annual French Film Festival is being held here in GSC International Screens in GSC Pavilion KL, Mid Valley and 1 Utama (New Wing). The film festival will run from April 25 – May 12, and go north to GSC Gurney Plaza Penang from May 16 – 26, 2013.
A total of fifteen (15) French movies will be featured in the film festival, which includes two limited screenings of Digital 2D movies each for “Popular”, “What’s In A Name” and “The Chef”. Not to be missed movies include romance comedy “Beloved” which has won the Best Original Music in 2012 Cesar Award and “The Secret Of The Grain” which has won the Best Director and Best Film in 2008 Cesar Award. Animation movie “The Painting” and “Eleanor’s Secret” are highly recommended for children and family. Tickets for the movies will be at GSC’s prevailing ticket pricing for Digital 2D and normal film format.
The French Film Festival will also offer a retrospective look at the career of Oscar and Cesar winning actress, Juliette Binoche, a first for the festival to honour a cinema artiste. Juliette Binoche is an actress, artist and dancer who has appeared in more than 40 featured films and stage across the world, recipient of international awards and a published author.
The focus on this French femme fatale offers four films among the 15 films to be screened during the festival, namely “Jet Lag”, “Summer Hours”, “The Horseman On The Roof” and a documentary called “Juliette Binoche: Sketches For A Portrait”.
